In the 1950s and 1960s, AI was characterized by logical and symbolic approaches, focusing on computer programs that manipulated symbols to represent knowledge and solve problems.
In the 1980s and 1990s, the knowledge-based AI approach was popular with the creation of specialist systems that contained specific knowledge in certain fields. These systems showed promising results, but also faced limitations in scalability and flexibility.
The late 1990s and early 2000s brought the resurgence of machine learning, an approach that allows AI systems to learn from data rather than be explicitly programmed. This paved the way for significant advances in the area, driven by the growth of available data and increased computational power.
